Like everything in tech, they can be persistently annoying in asking. You may not do it, but can you be sure nobody in the house will?

I like to imagine you spent more effort right-sizing the wood vs installing a door knob with a lock.

I happened to have a piece of scrap wood of the right length already. Making the hole with a hand drill took maybe 2 minutes. Don't think sourcing and installing a lock mechanism would be quicker :-)

I am used to thinking of robots having to be physically isolated from the squishy humans. Probably a reasonable safety precaution for what is a gen 0.8 model to not have an opportunity to run amuck while being filmed.

There are so many obvious grifts happening inside the administrations, $400k hardly seems worth the effort for the top dogs.

What effort?

The standard configuration of OneDrive also loves to "steal" files from your local machine. It will upload to the cloud, and then delete the local copy. Which is a great surprise the first time you are offline to discover that the files that were there are now inaccessible.

Does not give you any insight in the provenance, but Philip James has an awesome talk[0] where he uses Datasette to collect city government documents to be in a more structured format for analysis. Lots of clever automation to extract data from PDFs. Really some amazing work for surfacing civic decisions.

Wouldn't the obvious answer to be vote against? If you do not know the terms of the deal, maintaining the status quo seems superior.

My understanding: You are one legislator among many; you have almost no power on your own. To deliver results for your constituents or to accomplish anything depends especially on party leadership and on other members of your party prioritizing your wishes over many other things. If you don't follow leadership, if you aren't on the team, they won't do anything for you.

You do not find the 2009 jQuery answer satisfying?

What is the current defect rate preventing from happening? If you can lower it three orders of magnitude, what then becomes possible?

Harder engineering to separate the components? Making the oven + crystal formation work is probably maxing out their novelty budget without trying to make the craft partially disassemble.

Plus, they can study the oven after the process which is likely to be helpful if the entire experiment poops the bed.
