It could be happening on my kitchen counter right this very second. But my kitchen counter, despite a recent cleaning, is absolutely lousy with microorganisms. So the new proto-life is immediately starved or more likely eaten by existing life. There's very few places on Earth that has not been colonized by some sort of life so there's very few places a new form of life could form and succeed long enough to itself grow and spread without being starved or eaten.
If we don't create the Torment Nexus first, somebody else who is much less responsible is gonna create the Torment Nexus before us. It's outright irresponsible to not take the lead, we might have to even give up on all safety concerns to make sure we make it to Torment Nexus IPO first.
If we don't do our best to awaken Dead Cthulhu, when He invariably awakens He will know that we didn't do our best and we'll be eaten last by the Great Old Ones upon Their return!
Since we all know that at this point, someone is definitely going to build the torment nexus, we all may as well get involved and help, so that at least we can exert some limited degree of control over the eventual character of the torment nexus. At least that way maybe we can make it a little less terrible. At any rate, it can’t make it worse than it would have been if we -didn’t- help build it!
If you're going to get involved in a torment nexus project, at least do yourself a favor and research the different comp packages being offered and choose the best one.
And of course, a healthy skepticism of "the man" is essential when you're busting your ass building his unfathomably horrifying torture apparatus for him 40-50 hours a week (excluding PTO days and parental leave of course).
How about this: Duplicates of the old posts are created on a new host using some import/export mechanic, but they also contain a cryptographic signature proving ownership of the old posts (utilizing some secret only the original poster would have access to).
When a reference to a post becomes invalid because it's underlying host is gone, the other host holding those references tries to find new duplicate posts with the correct signature, and if it finds them, updates the broken old references to point to these new duplicates. If it doesn't find any duplicates with a matching signature, it leaves the references broken and has some cooldown before it tries to fix them again.
Never use the same company for your hosting or CDN and your domain, and avoid cloudflare in general.
That's because if they don't like your website being on your CDN, and they suspend your account, you'll lose your domain. If your domain is at Porkbun you can change it to point to a different IP address.
And avoid Cloudflare because they're centralising the internet.
I chose Porkbun because it's a small company with good prices, a good vibe, and all the tools that I need. Cloudflare was never going to be on the table because I don't want to feed the beast that is already swallowing the entire internet.
I love the concept of multiplayer-first without needing intricate networking knowledge. I'm actually working on a similar system for old retro games.
However, the demo games you have come across as too trivial and trashy to really show off what your system is capable of. I highly recommend putting a lot of effort into making something that shines there.
Computers came in and "took" the job of calculating numbers (I assume usually budgets and finances), but instead of every layman just using a computer to organize their company's finances, they still hire a professional to use the computer to organize the company's finances. The role shifted, but it wasn't eliminated.
there are literally no more people "computing" by hand. job as defined by "perform calculations by hand" is totally gone. none. nada.
this "shifting-role" rhetoric is very dangerous. making definitions fluid is a very slippery slope. you can arrive at any conclusion you want and support any point you want by changing defintions. seeing it in AI from C-level leaders is very concerning.
On a second thought... The result is counter-intuitive, because writing AGENTS.md (and reading if it's generated) contributes to the context in the human. So yes, AGENTS.md probably help more than the paper says, but not the way we initially frame it.
Dunno if there's a way to test that AGENTS.md help the human more than the machine.
There are asteroids with concentrations of precious metals more valuable than earth's entire economy. Why don't we just send up spaceships to mine them and send the haul back to earth? What country would say no to free money?
After all, it's just an engineering challenge, not impossible.
The numbers on that are at least somewhat questionable. Even ignoring that you'd crash the market (thus it's not actually worth what it first appears to be) what is the total fuel cost to adjust the orbit of the target asteroid to land the entire thing back on the earth? Because that's what you're doing bit by bit as you shuttle loads of ore back.
Now if you have space based manufacturing or fuel production on the other hand ...
That's the point. Basic rule of thumb: anytime someone is arguing that the military will fund something, they're wrong.
Its not a real argument it's just used because to most people the military is a big mysterious thing they don't understand which they think has an infinite budget for things.
