Indeed. Turns out the doorman is doing a number of additional tasks, not just opening the door, and thus cannot be identically replaced with an automatic door opener. And here we are, right back at the start of the conversation.
I'm talking about people whose job is literally to stand there and greet people and open doors. In some places if they're provided a chair or stool to rest on it's considered less "posh" like wtf
You're confusing the word "doorman" to include other random unrelated jobs, like expecting the postman to also deliver your milk and then complaining that email doesn't solve that problem.
(I guess if you ordered milk online, he could, but that's not the meaning regular people assume when saying "postman")
You’re thinking of a job that never existed. No one was only ever hired to open doors. Doormen have always had secondary duties that myself and others have explained.
I have worked with some who believe everything it says, copy paste code without thought no matter how bad a solution it is, spend hours in pathological loops iterating in circles and getting nowhere, and various other ways to generate a lot of code that kind of works so long as you don't go beyond limits and constraints that the software engineer committing it has no understanding of.
I would definitely like some way to know if they can be trusted with an LLM or if someone is going to be hard reviewing everything they submit forever. Don't know quite how to test that but asking them to use an LLM must be part of it.
They are fundamentally suited to everything not proven to be outside their modelling ability.
This doesn't seem to make much sense. Surely us being able to prove that something is outside their modelling ability doesn't affect whether it is or not. If I prove something true tomorrow, whatever I proved was also true today.
Or do we have a proof that everything beyond them has already been proved and there are no more proofs left to find?
Well what if rather than a Tesla+, one bought a cheaper EV instead? In the UK, the Leapmotor T03 seems to go for around 16000 GBP new. That's actually not much more than an equivalent petrol car.
It was going to be celebrity meat. As in, genetically identical to celebrities. In some circles, it would become de rigueur to host dinner parties at which one served meat cultured from the people throwing the dinner party. I wanted to see that future.
I sampled some of Li’s unusual dish while he continued. “I had the ship take a few cells from a variety of people on Earth. Without their knowledge, of course.” He waved the sword vaguely at the table behind us. “Most of you over there will be eating either Stewed Idi Amin or General Pinochet Chilli Con Carne; here in the centre we have a combination of General Stroessner Meat Balls and Richard Nixon Burgers. The rest of you have Ferdinand Marcos Sauté and Shah of Iran Kebabs. ...”
We ate up, most of us quite amused. One or two thought the idea a little too outré, and some affected boredom because they thought Li needed discouragement not accomplices, while a few were just too full already. But the majority laughed and ate, comparing tastes and textures.
“If they could see us now,” Roghres giggled. “Cannibals from outer space!”
