oh boy, this is really useful! I wonder why whatsapp folks haven't made this native, something like add a number to the app itself instead of relying solely on your phone contacts

I've been thinking about this market lately, have you done something similar?

I found WordPress plugins to be a bit of a race to the bottom for many ideas (eg: something is already doing it for free) but I imagine there is a great market for enterprisey plugins.

There are also some excellent plugin markets for most eCommerce platforms if you've got the drive to develop in them. Companies using an eComm platform are likely to be actual businesses so they are willing to spend more money for a quality plugin.

Yes, the low hanging fruit has been plucked, sometimes a dozen times. But if you think of WordPress as a very simple method of self-hosting, there are lots of apps that have yet to be built.

The other option is building a SaaS app and using a single WordPress install or WordPress multisite as the platform. I thought this was a crazy idea a couple years ago. Now I know of dozens of apps that have WordPress as the back-end, and it works well.

Hey, is it restful APIs that you write or more like crud apps with rendered views?

We get events in and trigger other events in the system. So basic SOA with a message broker in the middle.

Our REST stuff with quite minimal traffic is done with Clojure.

Hey, fellow job seekers!

I've written a small chrome extension to help you filter the thread, check out: http://imgur.com/a/CzNSa.

You can download it straight from the repo: https://github.com/viniciusCamargo/hn-chrome-extension/blob/...

This is also a turn down point for me, I wish there was better and easier JSON helpers.

Hey, HN! Would you recommend me a practical introduction to data modelling with Postres?

Learn normalisation from wikipedia, then read "The Art of SQL" to get a feeling for the shape of the weirdnesses, then read the postgresql documentation from end to end.

(disclaimer: worked for me, may not for anybody else)

I intend to read the PostgreSQL docs end to end at some point, but last time I checked the full PDF comes out to something like 3600 pages! I am astounded by the quality of everything about PostgreSQL, the community included.

Very nice, but I can't seem to be able to install it? Is it possible for you to post on the chrome store?

Quick instructions on how to install this:

1. Download the .CRX file

2. Open the folder where the file was downloaded.

3. Open Google Chrome. Type in chrome://extensions/ in the URL.

4. In the Extensions page, ensure that Developer Mode is checked.

5. From the folder, drag and drop the crx file to Chrome.

6. A notification would appear that HN: WIH Search By Tags has been added.

7. Enjoy.

In the meantime you can follow these instructions: https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/getstarted#unpacked

You should be able to install it through the "Load unpacked extension..." button if you have the "Developer mode" checkbox selected on the chrome://extensions page.

Hey! I haven't posted to the Chrome Store yet because I was the only one using it so I didn't want to pay their fee. But I'll submit there next week.

Awesome thanks! I already have a google dev account doing anything otherwise if you dont want to pay the fee.

You, I like you. Best view on the matter so far. Thanks.

I've faced this exact scenario a few months back when I asked some questions on Preact's Gitter. Pathetic. English is not even my first language, I swear I didn't know I'd be offending someone by saying "hey guys" :/

It seems that as much as Silicon Valley preaches about being inclusive, they have a strict american-centric view of absolutely everything.

I'm also not a native english speaker and it feels like I'm walking on eggshells constantly.

Especially since in other countries, terms like guys aren't so heavily gender-specific.

This. A million times.
