Fascinating. While there has been a historical group of Resource-Magnates ("Economic Elites") in charge of matters for the start of the Union, now it would seem that he or she who controls the propaganda/information controls both advertising revenues and the public, which is about 2/4 power slices.
Score Voting is superior. In the Olympics people are not classified as 1st, 2nd, 3rd until their scores are averaged. Political elections ought not be any different. Jumping to cardinality loses a lot of data and is relatively useless for comparing candidates across eras. Nice diagrams, but I would like to see Score Voting (Range Voting) featured as well. The hype behind Ranked Choice is strong, even though we would never use such a method to award Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.
Thank you for this good example. However, I think there are cases where Score Voting is hard to implement:
If we look at how we rank the countries in the Olympics, we usually look at the medals count. However, a country ranking 4th in every discipline is arguably better than a country ranking 1st in one discipline and last everywhere else. Ranked voting could be used here. It would be difficult to establish the ranking with Score Voting: is being 10% slower in a marathon the same as being 10% shorter in throwing?
I don't really understand how Range Voting is better than Ranked Voting. Won't voters only grade candidates with the maximal or minimal grade to have more impact?
But then, Range Voting was supported by very smart people (eg Balinski, Arrow), so I will try to read more about it and hopefully update my website in the future :)
Japan is very clean and nature is considered quite sacred. There is greater cultural harmony overall, making it feel very safe and relaxed. In the cities, there is a lot of isolation despite the number of people, but in more rural areas there is a more relaxed attitude. While English is taught there from a young age, it may be difficult feeling truly integrated into the fabric of the culture without learning the language. It depends on what sort of work you do for "work/life balance" since Japanese salarymen are sort-of expected to work long hours. If you work for a Japanese company or a European or US company in Japan, the differences in expectation will be notable.
Australia is much kinder to its users, I mean citizens. There are grocery stores where you can walk in and pay nothing to get food, and many social services that would be the envy of many "capitalist" nations' welfare systems, if it ever got talked about.
'ICE' was a big deal back in the day! Especially before refrigeration. If I remember right, One Hundred Years of Solitude (book) starts with a quip about that.
Mm... PageRank is the basis, but then recent publications suggest they use a multitude of factors (probably 7-10+?) to evaluate sites. PageRank is still more-or-less the biggest chunk, but since people learned how to game it, they've had to likewise step up their internal game on ranking. What you're requesting probably comes off as a trade secret, but you could probably get reasonable results using a PageRank inspired hybrid
