Nation state actors perpetrate these kinds of hacks to hide their identities as nation state actors. When a new hacker group says its a-political and it's toppling a regime or weakening a government of a nation significantly you have to ask yourself if they really are.

Doesn't apply in our case. We're only interested in freeing the belarusian people, our friends and family from the grips of this maniac Lukashenko. We don't even have any professional hackers (refused to work against the regime), we had to learn by a lot of trial and error.

Exactly this! One needs to understand the geopolitics of the region to understand that there’s a high chance of “meddling” and nefarious activity with anything that involves Belarus at the moment. It’s at the crosshairs of the world power interests.

Russia wants to retain influence and de facto unity. Basically maintain status quo.

China is threading belt road via Belarus. Massive economic interests and consequences for failure to achieve this.

US wants to reduce influence of both of the above and pull Belarus into its own sphere of influence.

You're stretching the argument. Even if Cyber-Partisans COULD hide their identites as a nation state actor doesn't mean that the ARE doing so. As for right now the group is exactly a-political and works to overturn Lukashenka's regime with any actors who also aims for this goal.

That's just a pedantic word discussion in my option, "political" can mean so many different things. This is clearly political in a way, yet the hacker group can also not be supporting any other politician directly.

> politician

No, I think your definition of politics is too restricted. There's no need to support opposition of any politician to be political. If it were, anarchists wouldn't be classified as political, which is absurd.

> No, I think your definition of politics is too restricted.

That's my whole point, it's simply an uninteresting discussion about which definition of politics is "best".

That's true of all words, so why not just stop talking. No, because there is an average meaning which most people will agree with, something to do with making decisions that effect groups of people. See a dictionary or an encyclopedia.

One of the reasons I want the Xperia 10 II is because of the TOF sensor and the camera array. Does the Sailfish OS offer software which utilises those?

For some reason the default camera only uses the "normal" camera but the Advanced Camera application from the community repos (Open Repos) can use all three without issues.

No idea about the ToF sensor - I woukd guess it could be used unless it nerds some weird Android blobs to function.

Maybe you should read the news on the other side of the fence. In the UK, LGBT training is a compulsory class for children. Many Muslim families are pulling their children out of school because they're not being given the choice to withdraw their children from classes where opinions about sexuality are being presented as fact in contrary to the principles they want to raise their child with.

> In the UK, LGBT training is a compulsory class for children.

This is way overhyped. It's barely more than “gay people exist, don't bully them” most places. One lesson in PSHE class – maybe two or three, if you get lucky and your teachers decide to teach you about binary trans people too, or if sexuality is mentioned in the Equality Act lesson (which mostly focuses on disability and maternity leave).

> opinions about sexuality are being presented as fact

By this logic, we should ban other children from talking about their religions in schools; they're likely to say things like “Jesus is God” or “God isn't real”. It's unlikely a religious child would get particularly confused with a teacher exposing them to different views on morality, given how much they're already exposed to that.

Many? You sure about that? Also, "opinions about sexuality are being presented as fact in contrary to the principles they want to raise their child with". How do you think things like that help? We want a tolerant and inclusive society, thank-you. I know gay Muslims in the UK. Can you imagine what life is like for them?

What does "LGBT training" mean? What I gather is that what they are teaching kids is, in essence, "be kind to each other". Do these families that are protesting not have the same biases against gay people that the person I originally responded to has?

It might be just me, but ever since I learned what a weasel-word was, I can't look at the title of a pop-sci article like this one without feeling the urge to dismiss it out of hand. They just stand out as weak and vague statements of things which compared to other sciences, they don't seem to be sure of much.

But who can blame them? They're trying to prove that a single cell, which is more complex than any system we've made as a species to date, spontaneously erupted from inanimate matter.

If I was tasked with proving that a usb drive with every codebase on Github on it made itself, and my livelyhood was on the line, I'm not sure what I'd do either.
