Why test when you can wait for 37signals to publish their successful results? Then just copy that.

Because your audience might not be the same as 37signal's audience, and hence might react differently to different things

You missed this in the 37signals post you referenced.

"Please note: What works for us may not work for you. Please do your own testing. Your conversion rates may suffer if you copy us."

In this case, its certainly would suffer

I like this guy.

Hi I'm Jamie.

To clarify: I did come from Crate. All designers here are way better than me in many ways. You could say we all have design chops. I'm not a creative director. I'm a designer. I prefer to be called an employee (only). Ryan and Jason still design. They are intimately involved in all design. Scott Upton, Jason Zimdars, and Jonas Downey are also part of the design team. They are all very awesome.

Cool, sounds like a fun gang. I didn't say anyone's not awesome, just that each is different and that the natural variation in types of skills also seems to carry over to sketching styles.

Trello and Asana are free (last time I checked). It'll be hard to make money from people using their apps for free. No money = no app improvement. IMHO.

perhaps, they will start charging for larger teams, or advanced features.

Both companies are well funded (and founded by wealthy people), so I do not worry about the 'no money == no app improvement' case

Touché! I was high-and-mighty too cool for school Designer role-playing.

It's fine, but I didn't really read it that way. It probably doesn't help that this place leans to a strong "business guy = moronic jackass" mentality. I'm sure that led to some assumptions on my part.

edit:

Let me add, that other than the comment I commented on, I really enjoyed the series. There was a lot of creative ideas to test that extended well beyond the usually published A/B test results that test fairly mundane changes, like the color of a button.

That's the correct way to use an accent

"Also to note, I often find that radical new variant designs for well established clients have rapidly diminishing returns."

I totally agree. However, this is a marketing site that "established clients" probably won't be visiting often. Once they've signed up the site has done its job right?

I hope not.
