Remind me in 10 years when the story breaks.

Hey ChatGPT, set a reminder for 2036 to tell me whether Google was found not to secretly violate TOS of School Chromebooks and use the data harvested from them to create value for it's shareholders.

"reputation"

Honestly reputation isn't the main concern if you're in leadership there, although it is absolutely a concern. The main concern is having to do another consent decree with either the EU or the US government. Those are a complete pain in the ass.

They get away with it long enough until the day they go to federal prison involving fraud across state lines. Definitely would not want to try it.

Yeah, it's greed that does that to people.

As of right now it's true and court decisions on other intelligences creating output is considered public domain.

Acquiring and setting up a camera for the right shot takes some skill. That does not matter.

Saying AI output is public domain is a misinterpretation of that case. The only court case related to the monkey selfies was by PETA, and the court ruled that the monkeys don't hold the copyright. The court didn't rule on who, if anyone, holds the copyright; whether Slater holds the copyright or it's public domain is undecided. The official opinion of the US Copyright Office is that generative AI outputs can be copyrighted by a person "to the extent that their contributions qualify as authorship".

Yes, copyright requires a human - in much the same way that an LLM requires a prompt. There's a continuum of author involvement that has to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

It's worth noting in your case that no determination of copyright was actually made by a court (well, almost: a court ruled that the monkey definitely didn't have copyright and that even if it did they wouldn't make PETA its guardian).

Some opinions were issued but those are non-binding and eventually the photographer gave up because litigating copyright is expensive.

If you're a teacher in the US, it's kind of on you at this point. There's no sane reason anyone should be teaching in the US without full support from the administration and full control over your curriculum, both of which the US does not give teachers.

So, blame the teachers for becoming teachers? What's the alternative?

Yes. At this point they know what they're getting into, and if they don't it's because they don't pay attention.

Hence why the majority of people I know that currently occupy teaching positions have another motive, or regret their career choice.

Sarcasm wasn't designed for these people. They're simple people that will never allow themselves to be educated. Sarcasm is not for them, it's for the people around them.

You will never be able to stop the simple minded racist with your educational movie. He only consumes media that appeals to him. "Go woke go broke!" as they say. If you want to get through to him you need to appeal to his smarter friends and family. You can bring them together with sarcasm more than any other tool, because two people of opposing views can relate to the same media.

It's almost like it should run on an iPad out of the box.

Can't buy a decent modern Intel gpu to run AI on because of nividias "donation"

I stand corrected. For some reason I had written off this generation but it does look capable.

The Intel Arc Pro B60 Dual has 48GB of VRAM; and the B70 goes up to 32GB.

What is the support like for them? Can they be seriously considered as alternatives to Nvidia or AMD cards? I have been looking into buying a GPU, specifically the Radeon R9700 AI Pro but noticed the Intel cards too and was not sure what you make of them.

But Crescent Island is expected to appear soon

Your computer may not feel faster than a 20 year old PC, but CPUs have gotten way, way faster.

Compare the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D to the AMD A12-9800, you go from 4 cores to 8, and you double the power consumption. But it's not twice as fast. It's 10 times faster. Depending on the exact metric, it could be as little as twice as fast or as much as 1000 times faster, depending on the exact operations.

On top of that memory throughput between DDR4 and DDR6 is about 2.5 times faster as well.

Oh and this isn't 20 years apart, this is 7 years apart. 20 years will see almost an exponentially larger gap even still.

I kind of hoped my point would come across more clearly. Obviously my current computer is faster than one from 20 years ago. But, it doesn't really react more quickly. It just does more: higher resolution video, advanced graphics, etc. The moment we add capability we rush to use it all up. This is not _always_ bad when it comes to computing, but I wouldn't mind if people in general had more restraint.

I suppose that's true superficially, but how many of us utilize 100 percent of our CPU and GPU power.

AI datacenters, absolutely. People? Nah we probably use 10 percent for 90 percent of the time.

But when I need to compile MAME, oh boy is it nice having a fast CPU.

Right -- in the details this is heavily task dependent. If we're talking about word processing, then computing has mostly gotten worse in the past 20 years.

If we're talking about video game graphics it's a bit of a mixed bag.

If we're talking about local LLM models then you need all the power you can get.

Etc, etc.

That is OP's point. The underlying technology has gotten faster but the computer you use feels the same as 20 years ago because the software that utilizes it does a lot more too.

The amount of review spam is so high that for a good portion of products the reviews are useless.

They also keep making it more annoying to even get to and read the reviews. It feels like it gets more hidden at the bottom of the page every few months. What a shame! Imagine how useful it could be.

One reason they force lots of scrolling is to put friction between you and the more-trustworthy Sort By Recent and Critical Only buttons.
