As others have said, definitely go to a custom domain!

I would suggest organising your email how you want it in your current account and use imap to migrate - makes it take easy. I'm not sure if that was part of your question but I didn't see it mentioned in the other comments.

That page just freezes the browser using Brave on Android.

Weird, works very responsively for me on Firefox Nightly on Android.

Yeah it's strange, it locks up the whole browser and makes it really hard to exit the tab.

That’s actually an issue with the syntax highlighting in brave. :-(

"As an artist ... Art isn't really about ..."

These sort of phases have always bothered me.

Art if about whatever you want it to be. My kid painting a dinosaur that looks like a scribble is art. A masterful recreation of a photograph in oil paint is art. T shaped lines on a page that have 'hidden meaning' is art.

Portraying someone realistically is as much art as throwing paint at a canvas with a particular meaning in mind is art.

It's all art. There's nothing wrong with enjoying art that doesn't have some hidden meaning. I love realism for the skill involved. I love abstract art for the ideas involved and the thought it provokes.

Enjoyment of visual art is entirely subjective, you like it or you don't, but it's still art.

There is so much of a "gatekeeping" sense when it comes to the question of "what is art", especially in the sense that "if you don't understand it your not appreciating it". You are allowed to like it just because of the way it looks.

Well, I've sold a few pieces (not for megabucks). I also don't feel at all "snooty" about it, as it's been a long time, since I did any real art. I have had training, but I have family that has far more training than I. My wife is a very good photographer and watercolor artist. She is also more in touch with the structure of the art community, than I am (I went geek).

It does, however, give me some insight into the community and mindset.

> Enjoyment of visual art is entirely subjective, you like it or you don't, but it's still art.

100% agree.

In my heyday[0], I was actually considering becoming a professional artist, but I knew that there are a ton of folks out there, that could blow me away, and didn't have programming to fall back on, so I went geek.

I used to get sneered at a lot. Fantasy art isn't really considered "art."

[0] http://littlegreenviper.com/art (I did these in the late 1980s. There's a bunch more, and I might end up putting more of them up there. My FB page has them. Feel free to judge whether or not I qualify as "artist." I couldn't do this again, right now. I'm out of practice).

I really like the artwork you've done.

I was getting at the points I've quoted below [1] - it may not even be your opinion, you say "there are many that would argue", but in my opinion art does not need a story or any emotion to still be art.

Some amazing artworks are just people trying their best to create something that looks good.

[1] "But there are many that would argue that this isn't necessarily "art," as art is an interpretation of an emotional experience, as opposed to simple documentation.

...

Art is a story, not just a document, and that story includes many components, including the artist's own story." https://www.pablo-ruiz-picasso.net/work-117.php

Well, [1] isn't my view, but "Art is a story, not just a document" is my opinion, and I stand by it.

Fair enough too.

You'll find a lot of very insightful blog posts on HN written by talented engineers that work at FB or are ex FB..

It's quite common knowledge that a lot of brilliant engineers are hired by FB. I am by no means a fan of FB but it's a known fact that they hire many excellent engineers.

Seems to me this would be about as unlikely as Facebook following through with their threat to pull out of the EU.

I can see the headlines: "Facebook leaves Europe. Continent wide holiday declared."

The joke was that they want Pinterest removed in Europe as well.

At least from Google "search results". But reading HN comments regarding those it looks like we would be better off with Google leaving EU, too..

The year of the Linux desktop in what way? I find it hard to believe Linux desktop will have any kind of massive growth this year.

You're right. 2023 will be the year of the Linux desktop.

It is inevitable.

It's a running joke. http://yotld.com/

Emoji being taboo here makes it harder to convey sarcasm.

Not on purpose.

I've owned over 20 different vehicles and none of them have had auto hold. Just hold the brake on!

Put it in neutral or use a handbrake. You are blinding those behind you. Especially annoying in the rain.

Auto-hold is helpful with automatic gearbox. I find it helpful in a car but driving almost any pre-2010 manual car requires mastering the clutch and hill start.

I’d not call auto-hold critical, neither would I call the “defogger” critical for that matter.

The only two critical things in a car would be in my book: working brakes and tires in good condition. Everything else - meh. If it has a minimum 3 wheels and a steering wheel, I’d drive it.

Blinding them with my brake lights?

This is a strange take on it, defogging is rather critical unless you have a rag handy, you have to see.

Wipers - rather critical. Engine - very critical. Seatbelts - rather critical of you value your life Fuel tank that holds fuel - very critical.

Auto hold is far from critical and I have only encountered it on large trucks back when I was a truck driver.

> Put it in neutral

I think you mean park

Putting it in neutral and letting off the break on a hill would end very badly

If you drive automatic, yes, park is a better choice!

But the demister is in the same section as the climate control for just about any car with hard buttons, it's literally part of the system.

The UX sucks, but if you did know where climate control features are hidden, why would you not assume the demister function is elsewhere?

UX is interesting because what is seemingly common sense to me (demister = climate control) is totally not to others.

Cars like the model 3 use resistive heaters built into the windscreen to de-mist, so hitting that button doesn’t always result in the climate control running full tilt.
