Love this idea. One less thing for me to have to carry in my bag.

That's the kicker for me too.

I'm often on the go, and don't do enough Photoshop work to justify lugging around a dedicated wacom. And even if I did it wouldn't have screen, let alone a gorgeous one like on the iPad!

Astropad is working great for me so far. Now time to invest in a pressure sensitive pen.

Thanks, that's great to hear :)

We've been working on this for 1.5 years and we had to write completely custom tech to make it happen.

We're happy to answer any questions about our tech

What's the unique sauce that makes this work?

How do you keep arbitrary Mac apps in sync with the iPad display?

That's the tech we built we call LIQUID: http://astropad.com/#tech

So it's basically a faster Air Display? I agree, the site is too vague. I don't know what it is, so I don't see why I need it.

Sure, but that doesn't really tell us anything.

We'll have to follow up with a tech blog post where we go into more details.

All I could find was a disappointing mosaic version: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BEETHOVEN-MOSAIC-35-X25-INCH-B-W-WAL...

Yes, the Italian cashmere wool is quite expensive, as well as the shipping and customs fees out of Spain. I wish that I could sell it for cheaper!

Brilliant! I hadn't seen that, thanks.

What about Google Maps/Google Earth? They are arguably even more ubiquitous than Gmail and have thousands of different applications and purposes.

People use Google Maps to make new apps - ranging from practical [http://www.padmapper.com/] to artistic [http://thewildernessdowntown.com/] - on a daily basis while Gmail and Google Docs remain relatively stagnant.

Maybe the goal of working in Photoshop isn't to mimic the design pixel-by-pixel, but instead to "sketch."

Mocking things up in Photoshop can be really productive because everything you sketch (all of your background images, buttons, and art) can be used as an asset on your site with minimal effort.

Pretend for a second that you realize that girls read HN too.

If you massage the truth about your company, it's inconceivable that I would sleep with you, let alone take you seriously.

I really appreciate the honesty here. But what are you exactly conceding to: that you'll only sleep with me if I truly earn above a pre-determined salary figure (because apparently women appreciates honesty), or that you'll still sleep with me if I come clean and tell you that I'm a just average normal thousandaire (because apparently women appreciates honesty).

Perhaps neither. In finding you attractive, I am interested in your character (your ideas, imagination, execution), so lying to me will be useless because I'm not interested in what you're working on as much as why and how you're working on it.

In taking you seriously, I am interested in your business (working with you, connecting you with people who might benefit your company), so lying to me will actually hurt you because you'll portray your company inaccurately.

Assuming you discover the fact that the truth is massaged...

>Pretend for a second that you realize that girls read HN too.

Honestly, I don't think it's very many. There was a poll a few days ago and I think the male to female ratio was was something like 9:1.

And I'm pretty sure I can sometimes (with very high confidence) identify women who don't read Hacker News.

Yes, one shouldn't pass judgement on homeless people, but the music analogy doesn't hold.

I presume that, whether you listen to country or rap, there is some degree of choice in your actions. So many homeless people end up on the streets because of mental illness or domestic violence -- things that are absolutely out of their control.

So instead, at least for me, it is difficult to see and accept homelessness as an alternative lifestyle. It requires a different level of empathy.

The fan boy within me screams watch this! The best movie about start ups to date.

Not sure if this is a reference to how employees and customers will behave in the context of the new store or to whether or not the store will manage to stay afloat at all.
