I use icloud and this does not match my experience ... apple mail search has been insufficient on ios and macos for 15 years or more at this point ...

Not sure what the difference is then. I use iCloud Mail and didn’t have problems with search on iOS or MacOS, I did however have plenty of issues with search when syncing my work Outlook email via Mail.app, so I assumed there was something special about iCloud (similarly to how Mail.app offers push email only for iCloud and FastMail). I’ve imported decades of email into my account so it’s not about a small email volume either.

I use icloud also and concur. Search in Apple Mail is poor.

The cat is out of the bag. At this point it's pretty clear that the path to (meaningful) self improvement is almost certainly not subject to meaningful centralized control -- by "meaningful" I just mean the degree to which anyone has achieved it, that capability is 100% replicable and the cost for replication of that capability goes down in the future from now. Full stop -- can't undo.

i wish they had renamed chatgpt to codex instead of the other way around ...

The "program produces this trace, reproduce it after changing xyz" loop is imo -- a kind of programming primitive for the current agent capabilities ... I've found technique like that really effective as well.

It's interesting because there's a part of me that sometimes thinks "hey look this pattern is pretty effective -- I wonder if this a nascent abstraction on the path toward reasoning about how to use these tools in effective ways" -- while another part of me thinks "six months from now, you won't ever have to do this or if this is a useful technique the agent will just apply it on its own when relevant" ...

the actually llms are there to be honest. the harnesses need to be a bit better

That's absolutely insane -- how the hell did anyone think that was a good idea under these circumstances ... This is an absolute scam -- why does it make sense for an index's buying volume requirement to be based on the implied value of shares that can't even be bought or sold ...?

it's not a scam if no one gets hurt

Honestly, I'm not sure most people get "hurt" in scams.

Think of the generic which cup has the ball scam? Like no American sailor falling for that overseas is going homeless from that event.

But I mean do you want to live in a neighborhood with only broken windows?

"For purposes of mine removal" -- what the hell is that line about ...

I have it on good authority that Iran doesn’t know where all the mines are buried.

I have it on good authority there are still ww1 mines in the North Sea. Mines drift. At best you know the co-ordinates of where you released them from a ship.

Yeah, the difference is these were laid months ago.

Man that conversation history navigation for the new Siri app looks super unuseable ... how the hell am I supposed to actually find the conversation I want with the super-dynamic non-ordered 2-column offset-row view thing ...?

It looks hard to use ...

Also the 'floating semi-window but not a window' thing when using contextual siri in the context of some other app ... sure looks like it won't work with cmd-tab navigation ... I really hope is not the case ...

I laughed on the groundbreaking emphasis that you can move and resize the chat window because it's a Mac.

You're up to something, maybe they really have a broken pseudo-window with basic UI interaction hacked on top.

The “window” also doesn’t belong to an app! His menu bar continued to show Finder as the active app, not Siri.

Which means, if shipped like this, the Siri dialog will be a poor excuse for a window with:

- no Cmd+Tab, no Cmd+`

- no minimize??

- generally no presence in the Dock whatsoever

- no keyboard shortcuts beyond basic text editing ones

- no smart window resize

- …

So in other words, no Justin, that’s not a window. That’s a resizable Spotlight pop-up with an “X” button.

My guess is that it's deliberate - that Siri window hovers over all apps so that you remain in your current context, and can add files/images/texts from any app to the Siri conversation. There might also be a Siri app on the Mac that was not yet shown.

You're probably right, just add it to the collection of "not-quite-window floating thingies", accompanied by Quick Notes, Stickies, Special Character Picker, Color Picker, Font Picker…

Sigh, I wish we could stop re-inventing what was already solved 25 years ago.

I just want to stop having bullshit added to my context menus :(

I think they were just pointing out the difference between that and iOS there

Is there anything structurally to prevent a super wealthy buyer from guaranteeing this essentially -- moving money and debt around in order to essentially put a floor under the stock and guarantee buy rates until the retirement fund index purchasers have time to absorb all the shares at the artificially high price? Feels to me like this is almost guaranteed to happen -- ...

I only just realized the z in foobaz stood for zork

This is extremely what Ive been wanting -- I had previously thought about using one of the hackish apps that try to deliver this experience - or spinning up something for this myself ... - but integrating this directly is definitely the right way to provide the best system and product experience -- and this seems to work out of the box exactly as I would want!
