So basically Skitch for mobile?

Kindoff...except it doesn't have the standard tools (arrows, text color customization) that you'd expect from a tool for PM's like Skitch. What you will find other features that help preserve context (hotlink blink & selective highlight/crop) and make sharing ad-hoc screenshots faster (blink instant) and more fun (scalable emojis).

Any URL off localweb.is has a geographic boundary of about 2 miles. So you can go to localweb.is/warhammer and post about warhammer, but only others within range can see and reply.

Why on earth would we do this? Because we think the local space fundamentally sucks.. and its too hard to find others in the area with the same interests.. and no one needs yet another app.. and we love the web.

The "front page" of the local web, localweb.is is a list of the urls people have created in the area sorted by activity... basically, whats trending within walking distance.

If you are in SF or Boston, you might see something on the front page, if not, you are likely the first person to view the local web in your 2 mile radius.

Ideas on how to use the local web? 1000ways.org

Open to all questions/comments. We don't really know what the local web will be, its a bit of an experiment.

Charity Navigator Navigator is actually funded by Dow Chemical, FYI.

Any problem involving network effects is hard to pull off with small or medium services.

Thanks for the feedback, we really tried for it not to sound like an infomercial, while at the same time showing an example of how to move before friends and followers.

We are really nothing like Facebook, and in many ways, the opposite. Id be happy to give you the demo some time. [email protected] or 415-390-6808

Wow, haven't thought about SimAnt in a long time. Loved that game, thanks. And SimTower too.

SimTower, aka Yoot Tower, is available on the iPad. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yoot-tower/id379197311?mt=8

Was thinking the same thing about SimAnt. So many wonderful hours absorbed in my world ants.

SimAnt is playable on that Computer History Museum archive. Just sayin'

I wish there was a gmail plugin that would make the users email publicly accessible, but read only. This would clearly test their "I have nothing to hide" argument.

This is a strawman or reduction to the absurd (I can't decide which) and it is throughly unhelpful to convincing anyone of anything - I'm getting rather tired of seeing it.

There is a huge difference between refusing to have a lock on your front door and being okay with advertising to pay for a free service.

There is also a huge difference between publicly broadcasting your email and only the government having access to it.

Here's a hint: The NSA is not the general public.

(This comment should absolutely not be construed as acceptance of spying)

That would be very amusing to see.

Parking signs are the worst. This designers improvements are clearer though the type size is much smaller. Sometimes you can only see the parking signs as you are driving by looking for a space. Its not much help if you have to park your car, then read the sign.

I attempted a similar solution using a "universal language for time and date" that I created.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3o_n4XBKZUI Never really went anywhere beyond the video though.

That was much cooler than the actual article. I'm not sure I'm convinced of the concept, but it's certainly thought provoking and the video is very well done.

The months section is actually how I've always viewed a year in my mind, except IMHO you have it upside down. Winter should be at the bottom, summer at the top.

Summer and winter according to whom?

This is really cool, I can think of some other systems that could benefit from this type of abstraction, like programming languages.

Thanks for the link. This is a great idea and I'd love to see it get some traction so that I can use it for things.

That is a good critique, 'ppreciate it. Let me know if you need any design related help in the future, happy to chat.
