I actually find great satisfaction and closure in knowing it is an ephemeral experience.

Experience the game, move on.

Of course, just my own preference, not saying others need to follow it.

I liked buying used games as a poor teenager and even poorer young adult, the only way I could afford it (and selling them once I was done).

> simply dumping proofs on the math community and expecting others to > do the grunt work of verifying, refining, and expanding

Hm, kinda reminds me of my college days. "Proof trivial, left as home work." was a sentence my Profs loved to say.

The open weight community really is an odd one. Millions of Dollars for pre and post training given away for free and most often with very permissive licenses that allow commercial use (be it US, EU or mostly Chinese)

Yet going by the comments on localLlaMA or HN, those companies are the devil :-D. Colour me surprised.

You know, the other night I trained a model on my secret stash of GPUs, that now outperforms Opus 5.5 on pelican benchmark and Jev on classification speed, while running on a potato.

Will release weights soon.

I don’t understand what is wrong with some people lol. It says in the very beginning everything will be opened up by the end of the month. It’s like a bunch of toddlers throwing their milk cup on the ground and pouting because they can’t have their new toy right now!

You don't get claim to be open and then not release your actual product.

In the case of Facebook, no good thing they do will ever undo the evil things they've done, let alone the evil things they're still doing right now. How convenient for the devil that a single act of "charity" should make him immune from all criticism. By all means, praise whatever good Facebook does in the world, but don't kid yourself about what Facebook is.

Ever since I discovered `gh`, I stopped going on the website itself. Stuff like this just makes it even more unlikely I'll return :-D

oh this is amazing. funny that they are self aware enough to talk about reducing context switching

Since the terminal is having its renaissance right now, I find it really great. VS Code with its integrated bash really shines here, all my developer tooling is right there with [CTRL] + [J] (cargo, pnpm, uv, you name it), all the code and docs live right in the repo with the keyboard friendly explorer and general keyboard friendly UX of VS Code (I touch the mouse like once an hour).

And with the gh cli, I dont even need to visit the overloaded github website anymore for PRs, Issues, Discussions etc, I can read it write in my terminal with pure text, no nonesense in it, clean and minimal, exactly what I need to be productive - and like you said, no context switching.

P.S.: It also feels like I am living in those futuristic 80/90s Cyberpunk Animes and Mangas where everything was a terminal/tui B-)

who are 'they'?

the makers of the github CLI ‘gh’ which is github themselves.

Thank you as well. :)

~~Mordor~~ Microsoft!

Thanks for the reply. :)

Digital Board Games solve this imho very elegantly, since the rules are tracked by the engine for the players (and is always impartial). It also can avoid the onboarding friction.

Just a pity it does not come close to the haptic pleasure of playing with a real cardboard, polished resin figures, and sturdy cards with dice (or whatever accessories are supplied) :-)

Indeed. Online games, Board Game Arena especially, are great for the ease of the rules enforcement and getting together with remote friends. But if given an option, I would always choose the in-person physical version. I'm spending enough hours in front of a monitor already.

> Online games, Board Game Arena especially, are great for the ease of the rules enforcement

That's true, but it has the odd side effect that the entire play group may be just plain unaware of important rules.

You can burn a lot more tokens very quickly for the illusion of increased productivity ;-)

Don't give into FOMO.

Developers just love to spent considerably amount of time and effort into building tooling. Way more than working on the actual products.

But I must admit it is really fun to build your own harness and tweak it to your liking, even if it is never used for professional work ;-)

I use Pi because I fundamentally believe that inference providers are not the correct providers of harnesses. Their incentives are not aligned, and inevitably Claude and codex will continue trying to lock you in to get your inference spend.

Yeah, better pay higher margin API prices. That'll show them!

A lot of us aren't actually using enough tokens to reach the value add of a $20USD/month subscription versus just paying for the API. Without even mentioning the chinese competitors, you can get a lot of tokens for $10 of ChatGPT Luna, which is more than capable of solving the kinds of problems I have at home (where I use hermes harness).

At work it’s all api pricing.

Pedantic maybe, but technically correct.

Which we all know, is the best kind of correct.
