I hope that loot-boxes and eventually micro-transactions become outlawed or at least age-restricted. One time, I had to help an immigrant neighbor investigate why $400 of his paycheck went missing, and it turned out that his son (who had no appreciation of how much money that is in West Virginia) blew it on Fortnite skins. I never found out if the bank refunded the transaction.
I attempted going down the route of blocking completely but I always come back after missing at least one too good video, or if a song isn't being streamed on Spotify. I do agree that the majority of Youtube isn't of good use for anyone.

This plugin was inspired by my friend, who's a great developer and power user, who didn't know you could use uBlock Origin to hide elements, so I created a plugin that streamlines that process for her most addictive website.

the "advanced users" setting you manually select after installation to enable the patchwork does state "required reading" which explains it. It's relatively straightforward
I think the article oversighted that even dollar general has loss leader products. When I was a poor student, I remember practically living on $2 worth of 5-10 bananas and a gallon of milk everyday, it was the cheapest in my town and I looked.
You can be poor and still have a fair, unexploitative shopping experience at those stores.
