I absolutely agree, and it isn't even a scale, it's multi-dimensional. There are many different little problems that the internet solves, and they could also be solved with many different little alternatives.

this is an interesting take. you are right a lot of stuff currently solved by internet can be done differently to the same effect. didnt think of that at all but ofc once you have a tool ull start applying it to lots of problems even if its not strictly needed.

I am releasing my music player into open beta this week! I’ve been working on it for a year or so, created my own language, engine, and network protocol to make it all sync wirelessly, and with no AI :) https://github.com/mjdave/katipoBrowser

> Today, personal or community websites are rare, and are run by a dying breed of enthusiasts. Now our communications and our memories, our photos and our videos, our precious data belongs to Meta, Apple, Microsoft, or Google, stored behind walls of ads or subscriptions. The web infrastructure is now too complex for individuals or small organizations to operate at a low level, and it is owned and controlled nearly exclusively by large for-profit businesses.

So you recreate the internet from scratch?

I didn't see the music player, but that's frankly much less interesting than a parallel world internet: all that's needed is a new browser.

I feel the same way. I have hired a number of people over the years for various jobs who I’ve enjoyed working with. But it was out of a desire to capitalize on various situations, move faster. When it comes down to it, I am happier moving slower and alone, and the end result is always better.

I have been working on an alternative to http, and the thinking comes from the same place, thank you for sharing. I still have a way to go, but it's definitely possible, and it is definitely a good idea, I'm very excited about http alternatives in general, we should have many.

thanks for being MITM

Not sure I understand exactly, but I have no desire to host trackers, the idea is that either the client or the host will be hosting their own trackers, or going through some third party trusted tracker hosting service.

So a tracker is what you called a router. Weird name.

Awesome. Starred.

It will always be easier to find a single hole than it will be to seal every one. The hackers have all the same tools, so this is an arms race that cannot be won.

It seems clear that LLMs significantly change threat model math, but this observation alone does not explain how or why; the asymmetry that you’re describing is a property of pre-LLM software as well.

Same ratio of imbalance, just with matching multipliers distributed to each side, and everybody is probably worse off because of it: I cite post-LLM-ATS hiring/job hunting.

Defenders have context that attackers don't though.

This is my fear too. Feels inevitable tbh.

Github availability is driven by massive growth in the amount of work. I might add that is without a massive growth in the amount of accounts.. MS is struggling to make Github systems scale, clearly.

VS Code doesn't have a similar scaling issue that I see

> The concept of a GUI wrapper on top of the Linux ecosystem is what's broken

That is a nugget, it's so true.

Wrappers in general are such an issue in software. Wrappers built on top of wrappers, this desire to abstract everything away makes things look simpler, but every layer slows things down and hides what is actually happening. Every wrapper is another layer of complexity, another hoop to jump through when you're looking for a solution to a problem.

Creations?

I’m working on a new internet.

There is a Vulkan based browser which you can use to connect to the only public site so far, a playable breakout clone.

We share many of the same ideas, I am working on a solution, a new type of internet with a new type of browser, and it is going quite well. Something like this can really make a difference I think, it’s definitely possible.
