Do you think that would happen under Dems and Khan being reinstated as the FTC chair?

I think this is a geopolitical question beyond any cabinet or chair. In general, I think it would surprise people, but a Democratic cabinet would have to do many of the same geopolitical choices as Trump has done.

If you read Chokepoints by Fishman, it's for example clear that US had to do something with Iran soon, because all of the economical sanctional options were squeezed to the max, there was no offramp for that country.

Is it? Obama era actions against Iran were pulled back by the following administration and unfortunately the world will never know if Harris could have been goaded into bombing Iran the same way the current President was. Hillary Clinton, while working for the state department has stories about being told that jets were hot on the runway and the US needed to jump in as well.

That is just not true. No, US did not had to start a war with Iran. There was zero reason for that, rationally. It was against all the recommendations. And especially, it did not had to waste its assets in such ridiculous way while gaining nothing. Fishman may agree with Trump or support Netanyahu or whatever, but US did not had to do it.

It also did not had to threaten Greenland. It did not had to ally itself with Putin. It did not had to try to destroy NATO. It did not had to start trade wars. It did not had to mock and insult foreign leaders. It did not had to support Orban or Bolsnaro. It did not had to murder fishermen on boats.

Going back in history, US did not had to tear down nuclear agreement with Iran either. Democratic president made it, Republican destroyed it. Claiming that Democrats would do the same choice is absurd.

If this is the case, then I shudder for democracies that look up to the US for inspiration on how to run their country.

There ain't nobody 'looking up' to US these days, where does this fairy tale idea come from? People around the world are not dumb, whole world is completely fed up to the brim with direct and indirect attacks from US in past 2 years, sowing chaos, conflict and death. We just wan to be left alone, and thats it. Not something US can do but one can always dream right.

There are many places which are more democratic and free than US ever was, its not a secret information but you won't hear about it in latest hollywood flick or fox/cnn. One only needs to travel a bit outside US bubble with open mind.

US system of 2 parties is pretty dumb if you think about it, artificial in pretty bad ways and not really transferable elsewhere. Constitution and laws which are less than toilet paper when power is taken by sufficiently motivated bad actor, 0 working checks and balances. It could have been worse of course if thats how we want to rank it, but we are not even in the half of it and something tells me we haven't seen the worst of it yet.

I'm not sure there's anyone left who does that without the USA army kidnapping their president or similar things.

The author of this statement is obviously American

Beware even the countries internet regulatory authority (NIC) issued rogue certificates in past, about time NIC's root certificates should be ejected once and for all.

Some websites still using the revoked roots: https://privatebin.net/?cbaaf3a2eae7a2ff#JE3iPaf8Mek91YbFymM...

Particularly concerning is India's UIDAI https://lea.uidai.gov.in/

That would damage public perception of the current Indian government, so the administration will do everything to keep the CA afloat.

Operators for gTLDs specifically .com .org .net serve large bases and operate under extensive contractual obligations, which can constrain arbitrary targeted enforcement. Than, some ccTLDs that have weaker mechanisms for appeal, leaving registrars and registrants exposed to discretionary decisions by the ccTLD operator or relevant national authorities

Cool words which apply if you are in USA. If you are not in USA, the Trump administration demonstrated you are better off with a domain of your country (usually a ccTLD).

It's called malicious compliance

It's not only about being open but predictability and unforeseen rug pulling.

Would you rather work with a team that is hit or miss, but has moments of brilliance, or predictably, consistently bad?

Moments of brilliance yet unpredictable versus reasonably good (lets be fair: 27b models are pretty damn good now) and predictable.

I'm an old school engineer. I like predictable boring technology that consistently gets the job done over hotness. A 27b model at high quant is "hot" enough.

Speaking in terms of teams: I hate working with hotshots. They ruin teams. And they're usually inconsistent and bad for morale.

Quad9 has horrible latency and frequent query failures, I hope Mullvad encourages them to improve their routes

Their DoH going down for hours multiple times is what forced me back to cloudflare, i don't trust cloudflare more but at least it works consistently.

Additionally the default of blocking 'malware' doesn't jive with uncensored internet - that should be an opt in and not a default on their flagship address if they want to be taken seriously as unfiltered provider.

If the encrypted endpoint can go down for extended periods and they curate list of 'malware' they are not something that should be considered a gateway to uncensored and open internet.

I frequently get mini failures with quad9 and my DNS client is too dumb to retry with another server (or quad9 returns a valid but bogus response that prevents my client from hoping to the next server) so I had to ditch quad9.

Quad9 also has worse latency but I could live with it, I just can't live with web pages failing to load several times per day(especially hacker News that has their DNS TTL set to 1 second)

It doesn't happen with my ISP's servers nor with CloudFlare or google or even good ol' L3.

I OCR'd my Chinese textbooks and made a stateless MCP that allows me to ground my Chinese language studies according to the textbook only. With this I can start a quiz, understand differences between words that have similar meanings knowing no extra grammar is fed when reviewing. I specifically use it with glm 5.3 as it is the most language specific LLM that understands nuances.

Here's the repository: https://github.com/iodize6399/xuexi-keben

And here's the server itself: https://keben.555420.xyz

That's an awesome example! I'll definitely make use of your repo and idea for my German classes. Did you use a specific OCR method? I'm trying to get something better than tesseract :(

I used Mistral 3. It costed me literally pennies. My workflow was kinda rudimentary but it worked really well. I suggest take a look at this https://github.com/docling-project/docling as well.
