It is bizarre in the US that people don't really think about it being the first thing amended to our constitution.

As if that was just random ordering and not a statement in and of itself.

IMO for many in the US the outcome is a far second to the morality of the intention no matter what the outcome.

This excuse doesn't hold forever. How many wars must we be lied into, before we start recognizing the lies ahead of time?

There is also something cool and interesting about AI generated art currently because it is new and fresh. At some point though that will wear off.

Personally, I love hyperrealism when it comes to painting. Of course, a child could basically take a photograph now and be on par with a master hyperrealist compared to hundreds of years ago but the output in isolation is not what matters. The display of human skill is what is interesting about hyperrealism.

Most art people love is a display of human skill and/or the personality of the artist that can't be separated from the output.

Almost anyone can get a quality piano sampler, midi sequencer and then output classical piano virtuoso music at a tempo only Yuja Wang could currently play. You could even speed it up 10X if you wanted to complete inhuman tempos. No one cares about that output though. Exactly what makes this interesting is Yuja Wang's playing that seems inhuman.

This idea that AI is going to replace all human activity is transhumanist nonsense and a simpleton view of the world IMO.

Same here. Linux Mint for 6+ years. Everything just works.

This just sounds like an addict bargaining to me. Like an alcoholic trying to figure out if they can handle a glass of wine because they use to drink vodka.

You obviously can't have a healthy relationship with video games or else it would never come to posting this.

I mean one of the hardest things with beating any addiction long term after the initial battle is what to do with all the free time and the boredom.

I would think some kind of time consuming, non-digital hobby would be best as a replacement.

Maybe try reading too about other people going through gambling addictions or other types of non-substance addictions to see how what you are asking is almost stereotypical in a sense with addictions.

IMO it would be something like not trying to skip anything. Really internalizing and enjoying the folly of youth as it happens.

I honestly think it is that his academic accomplishments in youth combined with the work he has done since is just triggering to people who have their identity wrapped up in being the smart kid. Since he names his companies after himself, knocking him for being "egotistical" is an easy attack to feel better about oneself for not having a PhD from Caltech at 20 with Feynman advising.

I have listened to hours of him on Lex Fridman and he doesn't come off as egotistical or arrogant in the least.

Isn't naming your business after yourself a common, centuries-old convention?

I wouldn't be surprised if a golden age of the restaurant has passed in the US and what we have right now is a massive over supply of restaurants.

If the average restaurant profit margin was 3-6% before the pandemic in a low inflation environment then I can't imagine the average margin is not less than zero at this point. Hard to raise wages if you aren't profitable on a business that doesn't scale.

This is just a study in distraction. It is like asking why is it common courtesy to not make a ton of noise at a library. We figured this out already a long time ago.

I even find with a digital device a distraction aspect to having 100 books I want to read at my fingertips. It is the paradox of choice. This book I have open is good but maybe one of the others would be even better.

Of course, I doubt there would be any difference if the digital device only had one book on it at a time and could not do anything but read but that would largely defeat the purpose of a digital device.

"I regret the way I made all these millions" is completely hollow because if he could go back in the past I am sure nothing changes.

I don't blame him personally on any level but you don't get to have it both ways. You don't get to profit at this level at the expense of society and then make an after the fact moral claim when you try to fix the damage you helped cause.
