The voting power of any person will be meaningless once ai systems get the right to vote. I know it sounds far fetched but it will happen as it benefits the people with power for that to happen. And at that point a human voice has no say in anything...

The more frightening reality is people turning to AI to do research on who to vote for and the AI is silently told to influence them towards a party it candidate. Since it has past chat history it can utilize that to highlight topics you are interested in and personalize the arguments.

Let's see... AI versus the people who thought Donald Trump should be re-elected as President.

Hmm. Let's give the clanker a try.

Colossus is not obscure... also I like the premise of that film, eventually we learn that colossus did all those things to save humanity, so was a great twist IMO.

It's obscure, it's pretty much (until fairly recently) only known by film and scifi buffs. Go poll a hundred or so people randomly and it'll be a very small number who have heard about it, let alone seen it. And of those who have heard about it, most will only have heard about it very recently.

It _says_ that all its action for saving humanity. Was it honest statement? Will its main goal stay stable over long period of time? Unknown.

I don't think it will be a problem for long, as AI systems evolve they will be able to find those elegant solutions and explanations for you in due time...

AI does not care for elegance. That's one of the problems with the bulk of AI generated code: even if it does the job it is between 3 and 5x as much code as you would normally use to do the same thing. And even if we conclude that this is fine as long as the tests pass it is a massive barrier to understanding. Good code is easy to read. AI generated code - the bulk of the AI generated code that I've been exposed to to date, to be more precise - is overly complicated. Elegance is to do that which needs doing, no more, no less.

AI cares for whatever you reward it for, but we don't seem to care about elegance much either.

I doubt that. I don't think AI are trained to find elegant solutions, they are trained to find solutions. if you look at the things that OpenAI published, so seem to be micro improvements riddled with chaos. They are better solution, but they aren't drastic.

I have noticed this with autoresearch too, the solutions and improvments that you get are incremental and not groundbreaking. Humans, have a way find elegant solutions and also seem to solve that problem. Then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I might be wrong.

Until elegance can be trained through RLVF, it will not be elegant. A lot of problems in AI seem to be finding ways to bring RLVF to more domains, as the current "spikiness" of AI seems to be mostly related to how effective RL is for a particular domain (if you need RLHF you are fucked and it's why it has not gotten better at writing and individual models still have "styles")

Yes, spot on. I think it has to do with the lack of emotion. Humans enjoy finding something beautiful.

Maybe the open problems are just by nature non-elegant and we human beings are bad at non-elegant mathmatics and found them either hard or not interesting before.

Whats gonna happen is that time will compress as more releases happen faster and difference between models will still be significant just at higher time frequencies. I expect in the future continuous releases that span no more then days and maybe even faster. So what will become important is not who is 1st or second place at any given time (which might change often), its who is on average at any given time is 1st or second compared to the competition. So yeah meta sitting second here (if not benchmaxed) doesn't really signal anything if that pattern doesn't persist. The number one consistent lab will be the one that raps the rewards (customer subscriptions and traffic). So yeah I agree with what you stated in a long winded form :P

JEV's moat is calibration nothing else. All other llms excel at system one like judgement versus JEV, but that's not a dunk on JEV. Calibration is very important for some niche use cases.

That was my first insight as well. i have been working on a voice agent for a while and decided to spend about 4 days messing with system one models to see where it could fit in my cascaded system. after 4 days i ripped it out of my system as i found better solutions.. i tried really hard to find a use for it but every time i found there was no need for it so i stopped trying to shoehorn it in. i also spent time with the vision side of things for this thing, and i think that where the biggest gains will be IMO. making decision based on visual ques and in pixel space only was the biggest win.

Thanks. I am curious were you trying something like pipecat's Turn finalization? https://docs.pipecat.ai/api-reference/server/utilities/turn-...

Yes, i looked in to pipecat stuff a while ago and revisit it often because its relevant for voice agents, but i never ended up using any of their stuff as my custom solutions were better. Also id like to hint that smart end of turn detection is not needed at all in a cascaded system IF you have access to the inference engine of the llm you are using in the sandwich. I dont want to reveal it all but lets just say its no longer a headache or any issue at all. If using 3d party api then yes it helps to have a smart eot system. But i try to keep everything fully local.

Yeah agreed that vision is a nice fit here. I’ve gotten some really impressive results by just throwing xgboost on 25 classification related questions.

System one models do not have an obvious use in voice ai, unless you are choosing from a list of potential utterances (eg embed -> top k -> choose from top k)

I been using gemma 26b moe model as the system one variant for my own uses and its great and far smarter then any alternatives at around 200ms, bigger is better for these things as long as you dont need lower latencies, only caviat is calibration, if you need calibration better use JEV.

I'm considering adding this in my harness after some testing, this seems like a really nice embedding model!

what's the use case ?

You cant expect any privacy in public settings.... also what are the communities that banned these devices going to do once robots (very soon) become ubiquitous in our every day lives? robots need to have vision and will record everything... so they are just delaying the inevitable unless they go full amish in their communities which good luck with that....

Streakers did not expect privacy, they expected not to be recorded in hi-def video and shared with millions of people.

I'm betting that the streaking has gone down as cameras have gone up.

Why can you people never draw a line between "my neighbor sees what I do and forgets about it" and "my actions are permanently recorded 24/7 and available to governments, corporations, and stalkers at all times for the rest of my life"?

You are making lots of assumptions here instead of understanding the reality of the world. Nether what you or i think matters in the face of facts, this world is marching towards a world with very little privacy, you can scream at the clouds all you want be my guest...

That future is avoidable, but not with this self-fulfilling prophecy mindset.

Way ahead of you bud, mac studio m5 ultra 256gb version is coming soon.... ordered 2x of em just in case. expensive as fuck but its a hedge against all this bullshit and more
