Not op but I guess the assumption here is that people would rather have less responsibility so need to be compensated to have more? I'm not sure this is true, but don't know if responsibility is its own reward. Maybe the status that responsibility conveys is?

People in general would rather have less responsibility if there is no value added by taking more. This is extra important when the person is highly qualified, because in theory they could do their own thing. So you have to pay more than that.

There aren't many people for whom status alone is enough. Why should anyone take on more problems to end up with less money than if they had assumed less problems?

There is another problem with not paying people. It encourages corruption. When people feel they aren't paid fairly, they will do all kinds of awful things.

I think the exercise is more about exposing you to other solution options (to 'break your anchoring bias'). You still have to exercise judgement as to which solution is right for the situation.

I don't think he's saying 'it cannot be physically made to work (given enough effort and discipline)'. The impression I got was more like 'if you go down this route then the incremental path of least resistance leads somewhere bad'.

but if any of those common libraries allocate short lived objects, doesn't that ruin things?

You can make that argument about anything. How about betting on a timeframe?

350f sounds too low to me. First crack (beginning of a very light roast) is around 200c/392f. Most coffee is roasted quite a bit darker than that - e.g. 220c and above

depends on the price

He's saying that by getting stock grants the workers own the means to production (=socialism, sort of)

What about order cancels - would you similarly limit those?

Yes, the ability to cancel an order now vs 1 second from now is not that meaningful. Or as the general public is concerned ‘If you’re directly placing orders on the stock market you can ware your big boy paints.’
