As cliché as it sounds... networking. My best careers have always come from being open to meeting people outside of a career-seeking context.

Last August, a startup moved in next door to my place in SF. I was friendly to the owners and we'd occasionally share a beer in my front yard. They mentioned they were hiring engineers and I always laughed it off.

One night they were working late in lawn chairs out front, and I idly asked them to finally show me the app. Turned out to be one of the most innovative web products I've seen in a long while. I've been with them now 8 months and couldn't be happier.

Addressed in the fourth paragraph. Much like how sandwiches taste better when cut into triangles, circular banana slices are the way to go.

It'd be a very tall sandwich! The preferred solution is just eat the rest of the banana, or pawn it off onto a significant other.

I remember first reading a profile on Lanier in the Beyond Cyberpunk! hypercard, touted as a visionary for VR. I'm glad his takes on the dangers of social media have held up, but also relieved he's optimistic on the recent wave of social justice knowledge sharing.

I’ve heard of hypercards but had never actually seen one or interacted with one. Here’s the web version the beyond cyberpunk HyperCard for any others who are curious: http://www.streettech.com/bcp/

For those curiout about what was up before Canonical stepped in, here's a screenshot - http://i.imgur.com/15u3X7V.png

Interesting use of a data URI. Is that much extra effort to upload the image?

Marketers take note. This link could also be titled "How to properly deal with plagiarism of your own website." Acting like a good sport with an even better sense of humor will win you many customers.

> Acting like a good sport with an even better sense of humor will win you many customers.

I agree, they should’ve done that. As the post is now, I don’t feel it is especially funny and I don’t see them being a good sport either.

Not titling it with a split infinitive would have got my vote </pedantry>

What the author doesn't take into account is the number of inches that it rains. Seattle rain is almost always light, only occasionally requiring a waterproof get-up. You can usually get by with a hat and thick coat.

In any case, while it doesn't rain 'often' it's certainly almost always overcast. I recommend to everyone (especially those moving from California) to pick up a bottle of vitamin D supplements.

Sadly disappointed that Bonzi Buddy didn't make a cameo.

We need bonzi buddy. It was the first thing I installed on my reformatted pc everytime my whole family loved him.

Wish it were on Android! This is a great idea that I already use on my physical calendar (a la Seinfeld). I can only see screenshots, but it looks like the font you chose wasn't meant to show statistics, evident in the "Completion Rate" percentage. The relative heights of the numbers and % sign don't parse very well, just a nitpick on my part.

Let's hope it works better than my Apple Knowledge Navigator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mLqJNDWx-8

1987. Right when Apple was starting to fall apart under Sculley. I think you just proved his point.
