The mindset I use is to believe (without evidence) that a solution exists. That allows me to see solutions faster because I'm not fighting with myself.
Put yourself into the world where the solution exists.
Another thing to consider is that while a utility function may exist, completing as fast as possible may not a requirement. Waiting until biological life is no longer feasible before proceeding to fully optimize the utility function would allow us to both coexist.
How about this.. China tries anything, and we repatriate Chinese-owned real estate in the western world, and give it to the displaced Taiwanese people.
