My fist reaction to this post was "why so little?". I very much expected the number to be higher.

I used to believe it was an ideal way to curb waste from consumerism via reuse. But the high prices force people into a decision that often ends with them just purchasing a new item, the exact discussion happening here.

We know about the yellow tracking dots.

1980: TRON is used as a keyword in Microsoft Basic

Yeah, I remember typing that into a TRS-80 Color Computer at the local Radio Shack. The computer responded with 'OK', if I recall correctly. WAT! No ?SN ERROR? Well, okay, then! Nothing else, either, tho. Hrmmmm...

Imagine my mystification when I would RUN a program, only to watch the screen fill up with [10][20][30]...

Yeeeeaaaah, still pretty near the bottom of the learning curve...

It's interesting how well that particular command fits with the Tron character in the movie but those involved in the movie say it was just a coincidence and Tron comes from "electronic".

Ah, the complement to TROFF.

TRace ON.

Speaking of which, I feel like ICE's next move is to start arresting people for not turning in their friends, neighbors, and coworkers. We know they're planning for it at least.

How do we know that?

I wouldn't say "know", but it sure is what historical precedent suggests...

They don't but it appeals to their imagination.

The #1 reason sighted by 2nd amendment loyalists for needing such liberal gun rights is to protect us all from government overreach. I assume that's what he means.

Common misunderstanding. The reason is to protect themselves from government overreach (and other threats), not you or anyone else. You were supposed to get your own gun to protect yourself, that's why the right needs to extend to everyone.

(disclaimer: this is not my opinion I'm just explaining their logic)

And definitely not religious preferences.

I'm sure their dau decline and actually blocking most usage (non-logged in users) has helped a lot.

> it's just a job

Considering what you're responding to, it sounds like you're suggesting people over 55 don't deserve to be respected or have a good position in life.

> I think we should buy people out with reasonable comp and let them live the rest of their life doing something that brings them joy and happiness, even if that's volunteering in what they used to get paid for. But I'm not a policymaker.

Respect is how you feel, a good position in life is a function of your retirement benefits and financial comfort. If the market has no place for these folks anymore, and we're not offering a permanent jobs bank to keep people working who want to work (which I absolutely think we should do), "it is what it is." Sorry if they feel bad about market changes and demand for certain skills and labor.

We show respect by packaging folks out to live comfortable remainders of their life. "Thank you for your contribution and service." Lack of respect is leaving them hanging in the wind financially, not words. If you need a job to feel needed and respected after entering retirement and with sufficient financial and retiree benefits support, we'll throw a standing appointment with a therapist into the package and/or a volunteer opportunity online board/bank.

If you're looking for validation from your job or your work as a component of your identity, you're going to end up sad. That's a choice. Make better choices if you don't want to be sad.

> We show respect by packaging folks out to live comfortable remainders of their life.

And in what way is this distinguishable from disrespect? There is some major assumption in your post that remains to be explained.

What, you’re not looking forward to being packaged and shipped to the containment center?

Either every doctor, nurse, firefighter, teacher, FBI agent, reverend, and social worker I know is wrong, or you are.

The thing about the facebook is listening to you rumors is that the reality is so much worse than them actually surreptitiously listening to you. Their knowing who you're interacting with and what you're likely to talk about is more alarming. Dismissing facebook listening to your conversations is shortsighted in a way I find fairly repulsive.
