I am surprised to see that a restart of the browser is still required to enable / disable extensions and themes in the new FireFox 4.

Is this the case with Chrome as well?

Firefox has also other type of extensions. Jetpack extensions ( https://jetpack.mozillalabs.com/ ) which don't require restarts. And there are also "mini themes", called Personas ( http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/ ) which don't require restarts.

Firefox 4 is the first release to support restartless add-ons: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Extensions/Bootstrapped_ext...

Add-ons written in the traditional way will still need a restart, until the authors adapt them to the new bootstrap API. Here are some add-ons that are restartless already:

Not in anything I've seen, about 50 different extensions including context menus, blockers, all sorts I'd call major.

With the addition of the FlashBlock plugin (http://flashblock.mozdev.org/) the chance of those crashes happening drops significantly.

This can be done without a plugin in Chrome. Simply go to about:flags and enable the Click to Play plugins option. This enables an extra option in the prefs under Content Settings IIRC, that allows you to force any, all, or specific plugins to behave this way. Godsend.

@Terrence_B: Good to see that you've stumbled across eFront. Not sure what version you looked at, but be sure to check out the 3.6 version being released at the end of January (beta available on the eFront website).. pretty radical change to the theme engine, tighter integration options, etc.

There has been support for add-on modules for a while now, but for the hackers, the 3.7 release later this year is a fairly big architecture change and opens up the entire platform similar to how Wordpress manages their plugins in terms of hooking, etc.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do what I can to assist.

You don't really say, what is it about your evolving business that dictates a change in mail provider?

That being said, depending on your volume and functionality you require, http://www.aweber.com is also an option to consider.

From my perspective it is less about the actual answer and more about the process you use to get there.

Now granted I have read a few studies indicating that it is possible to derive puzzles in such a way that to weed out certain demographics. One could argue the same thing based on what college someone went to and when based on the published numbers from that school and logical analysis. Should asking what college you went to and when be illegal?

As it stands right now, "puzzle solving ineptness" is not one of the groups of people protected by the equal opportunity act.

But it might be that older people are worse at these sorts of puzzles in which case this would result in age discrimination.

Other groups may be affected as well.

So what you are saying is that you are having a hard time understanding women's needs? ;-)

Since you asked, our company is in stealth mode on a product geared specifically for women (not a shopping, dating/rating, community or gossip site).. each demographic has their special needs, we're attempting to address those needs..

I do agree that a web app should be built for anyone. We are building in flexibility, for example, for the significant other of a female to gain value from the app as well..

I was also born and raised in STL.. left 5 years ago for the west coast, moved to Asia at the beginning of 2007.

Palish, I'll be in STL 9/13 - 9/19 for business meet ups. If you have availability I'd love to buy you a drink and hear about what you have going there. Curious as to how the startup scene in STL is evolving.. -frank{&at&}actercompany.com.
