Microsoft will forever be in my personal dumpsterfire. Absolute trash. How the fuck they can allow admins to disable copy and expect anyone to get anything done. I work in healthcare I’m expected to understand what is confidential and what is not as part of my job. 99% of my email has nothing confidential in it but yet I cannot copy an email address or drag a block of text anywhere. It is so infuriating…. That guess what…. Everyone sends their emails to their personal address. Good work…. I realise this is the sysadmins washing their hands of accountability. But Microsoft should allow copying an email address from their own profile pages. I do other admin that requires lists of people emails and I have to resort to all sorts of crap to get their email address out of Microsoft. It’s a joke. They can burn in hell.

>disable copy

What fresh hell is that?

My first HN comment. It’s the monopoly tie in… so many features that other just cannot provide. Hey siri… handover to name a few. It’s a total disgrace IMHO. To think how much Microsoft got fined for just bundling IE..

How dare Apple sell me exactly what I want: an integrated computing environment

The problem is that other manufacturers can’t create headphones that integrate on the same level because those protocols are exclusive only to devices manufactured by Apple

Other manufacturers don't seem interested. There's nothing stopping Samsung from creating an open ecosystem based on their hardware, but I don't see them making a serious effort to do so.

Apple are free to do that, and so should other manufactures. There is no reason, technical or otherwise, that the APIs used for Airpods should be exclusive.

What I want: the ability to integrate tooling I roll myself or find on the internet just as easily as apples often slopware.

But then the logical solution is to not buy Apple? I like the garden walls. If you don't like them, find your own garden, don't shake your fist at my walls.

Macos already operates like this. Works out of the box and has the safe shiny mac app store for the normies but still offers a full unix experience for people who know what they are doing. And the sky doesn’t fall. In fact I had this with my iphone when I had it jailbroken until I got too version locked.

Sure, we'll all just go ahead and build the third walled garden with all the billions we have lying around. This "just don't buy Apple then" argument is disingenuous and I'm tired of hearing it.

Apple et al. want the benefits of being utilities without the regulations that go with it. If my _bank_ requires me to use one of two OSs, the corporations that control them can not claim all the freedoms private companies do.

Take it up with your bank. That's a legitimate issue. But the last thing Apple wants is to be a commoditized utility and it's hardly their fault if your bank does this.
