Whoa, thru amazon pharmacy you can get it for 300 after the $200 Lily coupon FYI.

!! I will check that out. I used to use Amazon pharmacy and it was $700 a month so I switched to Lily Direct which was $200 cheaper. Thanks for the tip.

We don't need new ideas, we need to actually work towards fulfilling the ideas that we already have and are wildly popular. Like not worrying about healthcare, or spending less time at work doing bullshit to prop up social structures instead of spending time with our families, or learning something, or taking care of our community.

Or more third spaces where leaving the house doesn't cost $80

Or housing being affordable

All these are human problems and startups could help with them, but so long as the desire for ideas is a means to the end of making their founders and investors individually wealthy and powerful, we will continue on this treadmill of wondering why people are more stressed, have fewer kids, don't have any optimism. Its the core conceit of this forum, built by ycombinator, that giving a fuck about each other is second to money - they used to hide it, but everyone knows exactly who they are today.

You ar right, but I don't think we're suffering from a shortage of ideas either, and I certainly don't believe every human problem needs a startup as its solution.

This project is more of an experiment in how people imagined the future 100 years ago, and which of those possibilities might be achievable today.

But I think your comment raises an even more interesting question: just because we can build something, does that mean it's what we should be building?

Uhh I don’t think the cute science fiction site is to blame for capitalism. And capitalism is terrible, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think we can or should even blame venture capital for it. VC has been big in the news for a while, but it’s still ultimately a small sliver of the capital pie.

> VC has been big in the news for a while, but it’s still ultimately a small sliver of the capital pie

Trillions of dollars in AI right now is not a sliver its literally the growth of the US economy - maybe you don't count it as VC but the world does

The algorithm was the product, the licensing model was its failure. Proof you can get goodwill via an algorithm if you actually make it for the user rather than treating them like fodder for your ad network. Maybe someday in my lifetime we can actually achieve the dreams our platforms promised but rugpulled to make the worst people on the planet billionaires

> Democrats have paired up with tech in the past

Yeah, and both their politicans and constituencies were directly betrayed by them. They made their bed and now they must sleep in it. Many of the dems who won made data centers and AI a part of their platfrom.

It adds a sort of tragic element to the game. Growing up I used to cheer for big hits now there's a recognition you are often watching someone lose several years off of their life.

There's also these guardian caps to reduce some of the shock, but they're not very effective - they absorb like 10% of the blow, and you don't see very many players wearing them in-game.

The main issue seems to be shock to the brain being sloshed around inside the skull, even neck-snapping type impacts without any contact to the head itself can cause brain injury. The extra helmet padding doesn't do anything to reduce that. Plenty of linemen have been diagnosed with CTE even though their play doesn't involve as much helmet contact or high speed collision.

Yeah the spread is everyone who plays contact football pretty much. Linemen are basically there to absorb and make leverage though - hands up to the head, neck strains, etc. Its a pretty brutal sport for what it does to people's bodies. Any sport has injuries, and paradoxically all the armor can make the impacts even more powerful and frequent.

Vehicles already have them, you don't need a lot of bandwidth just enough data to identify the members household which can be done with a wifi access point map and bluetooth MACs.

> I cannot understand just how consumer brained everyone is.

I can - its a collection of hundreds of PHD-level human behavior psychologists across many companies finding ways to "hack" behavior to increase revenue, vs 1 exhausted customer who just needs something basic and doesn't have the time, money or experience to be discerning in what they buy. Ad companies know more about customers and their behavior than the people are aware of themselves. They hoover up your data, run an alg to determine the patterns of your life and the lives of everyone like you, and target both online and in person various inflection points to drive you towards behavior they want.

You have both product, marketing, and sales all contributing to a mass manipulation, and for this they are rewarded with extra resources to start new companies to do more manipulation.

They spend $3b of their $4b in revenue on corporate employees, $500m on restaurant "subsidies" and drivers, and the rest goes to stock buybacks ($8b last year). If they want to find ways to cut expenses, they need to look in their offices not on the street.

Oh these aren't "employees", these are lower caste "gig workers". They could double their pay and still make a profit, according to their latest quarterly filing. Their largest expensive, 5x of what they pay their drivers, is corporate employees, whether executives or software developers or marketers or salespeople.

They could literally double the pay of every single driver and still make a profit, but they won't because the drivers "choice" of who to work for carries no market power whatsoever. Here in Seattle we passed a min wage for drivers, and Doordash promptly increased their fees to customers by 30-50%, making it the most expensive place to get delivery in the country. They didn't need to do so, except as a warning to other municipalities not to. Then they tell everyone that its the fault of the minimum wage workers that the fees are high, and not their decisions
