Also on android phone, FF allows addons like uBlock, noscript & greasemonkey. GM scripting is pain w/o external editor, but it's worth it...

You have plan9 for OS...

And check suckless.org, especially dwm

1. Package managers need not be complicated. I think a simple sandboxing app mgmt is possible.

2. about web: too bad that design-addict webdev community bloated it. But wish someone make a simpler, faster & straightforward web as portable app platform with few nice commercial qualities...

3. About OS: OS need not be bloated if it isn't running behind popularity by satisfying everyone's remote needs. ( source: plan9, suckless, busybox )...

1. Package managers only exist to manage complexity. If you want one, the system is already too complicated. You can sandbox applications without them.

2. No disagreement here.

3. Unfortunately it still kinda does, because drivers. Two of the ones you listed sit on top of the Linux kernel, which even Linus thinks has become bloated.

With android we can at least replace few parts, and get a functional unix terminal even without root. If you can degoogle and / or root, android is great.

And BillG didn't deserve it...

Well, I am trying to evaluate rust the language, because if the language is good, as a student, time investment can be worth it...

So this is a bit off topic, but on the note of time investment, I'd definitely say learning Rust is valuable for your mental model. Common patterns in languages (take Go for example) allow you to do unsafe things very, very easily. Often simply involving pointers.

When you start writing programs in Rust you can often back yourself into a corner. These corners are often unsafe, but allowed patterns in other languages.

Sure, you can solve this by forcefully Mutexing everything, or you can often learn a "better" design which doesn't involve trying to prevent race conditions. These batter patterns are not exclusive to Rust and can be brought to many languages. It's just that most languages won't help you discover them.

So what I'm saying is that learning Rust can make you a better X developer, even if you don't stick with Rust. Especially if you really learn it, and get a feel for what patterns to avoid, etc. If you just learn the syntax Rust isn't likely to help you, imo.

It can be a "defensive" move from NSA though, they have other ways to "attack"...

Think I can list a few reasons.

[] Movie piracy: continuing through telegram groups

[] WhatsApp - people share videos on whatsapp a lot these days..

[] YouTube - Here I don't think ppl are much into paying for Netflix / Amazon, but YouTube is used a lot.

[] Others: services like hotstar, voot ( movie / TV live streaming ), audio streaming services. Most of these are ad supported. And of course, seems quite a lot at adult content..

This is what I observed in surroundings. Indian people don't care much about ads and that also has been a monetization strategy for jio. I personally don't use any of their apps but many do. Also their cheap feature phones embed advertising.

Hello,. also from a remote village but for most people jio has been economical.

I remember browsing at ~10 KiB/s on BSNL 2G network at 20MB/day for INR 4, now at nearly same cost, I can get much better internet, though not even near to foreign speeds.

Nope, many trackers are blocked too and that is problematic for regional content

but there are things like free online leechers, telegram groups that freely share pirated content..

It is not many people. AFAIK most people get pirated movies from telegram groups.

It is not possible to get old movies this way tho...
