How specifically do you propose this? Have you tried running inference on a local machine? (You should try that) I run local models on desktop machines, laptops, dedicated servers, cloud servers.

I’ve built my own LLM containers, ive built orchestration systems for fine tuning and model management. I’ve tried quantized models. I’ve tested a dozen or so models of different sizes.

You can’t really get around the fact that inference on cpu is slow, inference on gpu is gated by nvram (you need about 1gb of nvram per billion parameters, quantization reduces quality and increases operational toil). If you know of a consumer level gpu with 80-128gb of nvram that I can buy for less than $10k do please let me know.

Short of a specific proposal I’m going to classify your suggestion as not knowing enough about what you’re talking about for your proposal to make any sense.

Bully wants dad’s help harming a neighbor. Bully threatens dad. Dad can either stand strong and live the example he wishes his child to follow, or cave displaying the opposite of what he said.

In humans what you do is far more important than what you say. You can tell a kid to tell the truth a thousand times and if you show by example that lying is ok, they will lie.

Conversely if you live a life where you simply don’t lie for any reason, your kids will learn to live honestly.

Not sure how well this translates to LLMS. Probably not cleanly.

Or do what he told his kid, by getting his cousin (not a neighbor) to do the harming. Or perhaps to get the cousin to destroy the bully.

The "your kids will learn to live honestly" doesn't necessarily track.

If you simply don't lie, that doesn't mean you won't be taken advantage of at times. Your kids might see that and decide it's not the best approach to doing things.

Given what o know of intelligent life, I’m not sure I’d be super interested in my neighbors seeing me before I saw them. It’s sometimes good to scope people out a little before shouting at them.

Zorin was trending here a few weeks ago. I installed it on a few machines. It is super slick. I didn’t try the Mac skin but the default windows one is finally a Linux that looks like a professionally built operating system.

I actually went back to headless Ubuntu lts after playing around with it because everything I do is headless but I really liked it while I was using it. Debian based, I had no complaints.
