I hate thinkpads. I was a traveling consultant for nearly a decade. I had three thinkpads and two completely broke within 2 years. The third was ok but when replaced with a MacBook pro I became an apple convert.
Your body adjusts to using fat as fuel. I’m no scientist/doctor but I’m training for a marathon and I find I perform much better than when using gels or bars or any of that other processed ‘fuel’ I used to use.
I also love weightlifting while being fasted. One meal end of day for me has put me in the best shape I ever have in 36 years. So much that I actually took up running haha.
> If you were laid off, chances are you weren't valuable enough. Pure layoffs happen. But from my experience useful employees almost never get let go.
I completely disagree, I’ve been on teams where the best players were let go because organizational changes.
As a matter of fact, I’m currently on a team where one of our best performing, well loved, cross team contributors was let go during Christmas for what I can only classify as politics. It was a company wide RiF and our manager protested, but he was in the target region. I honestly would have put myself or others on the chopping block first, as I don’t contribute half as much and get pad substantially more.
There is video evidence and many eyewitnesses that he did no such thing. If you need to lie to justify fascism, maybe you shouldn't be supporting fascism.
He possessed a weapon on his person in a state where that in completely legal, in a country whose constitution explicitly says he's allowed to own that weapon. There was not a single reason for him to be executed by federal agents.
> He attempted to be a hero by drawing on a federal officer.
Absolutely vile smear against a hard working VA nurse and stand up citizen.
There were zero attempts made by Alex Pretti to draw a weapon. He was being a hero by helping 2 women move away from the masked officers forcefully pushing them.
I actually appreciate it when fascists lie so brazenly - it makes it easier to ignore their nonsense, and also starkly demonstrates how little respect they have for truth.
I am now in my mid 30’s but moving to a second tier city may be one of the best life choices.
I have a small sample but all my New York and SF friends are still single, living in apartments, and grinding at great innovative companies.
My friends in Seattle, Austin, Chicago, seem to have much chiller more fulfilling lives where they have families, real estate, weird funky interests and hobbies.
OMG, Chicago is not a "second tier city," it's an international hub and #3 by both population and GDP and O’Hare is the #1 most connected airport in the United States.
Yeah because Seattle is a third tier city. Chicago isn't a second tier city because it is surrounded by 10 other completely irrelevant cites. Austin is solidly a second tier city though.
> have families, real estate, weird funky interests and hobbies
Many people would rather have these^ but stay stuck in cities/downtowns despite knowing it is only delaying the inevitable for them.
While I'm into it as well, but how do you define it as a hobby?
Some people tinker with watches, building or fixing them, but does owning a few watches and discussing them online count as a hobby?
Most people I know have apple watches so researching mechanic movements and models is enough for hobby status to me. Like any other 'collecting' hobby.
But yes I've taken a few apart to try to fix and service them, even if it's only with my $20 amazon repair tool set.
And most of my friends and colleagues would take a full remote role that pays half what big tech, 5 days in office pays. Add in an extra week of PTO and you have a great pitch to devs.
