I have absolutely terrible Netflix quality on my Samsung TV sometimes, but it shows 68MBit here. Makes me wonder whether the firmware is to blame..

It definitely is.. I have a newish Samsung smart TV and the streaming quality was always garbage. I got an Apple TV and HBO and Netflix consistently stream at their highest bitrates via the same 150mbps internet connection.
