I got a BFA, but started out a part-time web dev job to pay for university. I graduated with no interest in art, so went full-time in web dev. Been doing it for ten years since, and now build and lead teams. Got there through continual self-directed learning (books, courses, open source experiments). Slowly getting interested in art, again. The biggest benefits of the art school training:
- A habit of taking nothing for granted, interrogating everything.
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
- A broad communication toolkit.
