Besides web browser extensions, this sort of thing works nicely in firewalls that support DNSBL (DNS block lists). I've got pfSense running pfBlockerNG, and it whacks both incoming (known malicious) and outbound requests. As a result, anyone on my home network gets the same ad-blocking and other protection, including guests on the Wi-Fi. Nobody has to do anything special, it Just Works.
