It's funny you call that "early browsers": from the perspective of today, you are absolutely right! I just remember CSS getting introduced (was it late 90s?) and think of things like Netscape 4.0 as "middle age browsers" (with 3.0 ending the early age — I am sure others would call that a middle age browser too, but I did not get to experience Mosaic and such), but I think I need to recalibrate my sense of history here :)
