Not sure I agree about that. I can’t recall seeing this kind of questions before, say, the year 2015 or so.

Personally I've encountered fewer "i'd have to study for this" interview questions (red black trees and stuff like that) since 2015 than I did before then. My anecdotal experience is that there's been a trend towards more "practical" coding exercises vs pure algorithms. I've gotten offered (sometimes declining) more take-home things recently too.
