Unfortunately, in many cases, the digital release of an album sounds better than the CD, due to a longstanding trend in the CD industry of brickwalling and compressing the dynamic range to the point it becomes auditory sludge.


CDs are digital too. It's probably better to say "the online release" or "the downloadable release".


You understood what I meant though. If the point was understood, then the language used has served its purpose.


You should still strive to use accurate terminology, however. Yes, your point got across, I don't deny that.
