I’ve seen entry-level McDonald’s jobs paying $20, surely a programmer that can automate countless things is worth 5x that ($208k annually)

They pay that much because it's very difficult to find local employees to work for McDonalds, you can hire hordes of great developers for half that salary in India or LATAM.
