Im still not sure why a company that's hosted in Australia, with a thoroughly awful legal system for digital privacy by the standards of other western-style democracies, is recommended so much. I can understand its other benefits and have no direct criticism of the company itself, but that legal detail isn't a minor one for anyone who wants to leave behind Google's pervasively privacy-parasitic garbage.
Absolutely terrific service, indeed. In terms of privacy you’re probably better off at Protonmail from a government surveillance perspective, but in my opinion you’ll pay with usability that way.
tutanota.com btw protonmail allows you to link custom domain but you have to be a premium member. If you're looking something that will give every feature for free while keeping your data safe. Good luck with that.
Yes, if op wants encrypted mail there aren't many other options around, and I think there was some standard that allows proton <-> tutanota e2ee communication, but I don't remember its name.
Not sure if you followed that, but they fought it tooth.and nail, and were forced to do that legally in the meanwhile- but WON
The fight finally, and can't be forced to log via legal mechanisms as the authorities attempted
I've had good experiences with Fastmail and Apple.
If you're paying for iCloud, Apple also supports custom domains and this integrates with Apple's mail apps, allowing you to send mail as any of the hosted accounts without additional configuration.
I recommend Runbox. I've been with them for a few years now, with absolutely no complaints. Reliable, flexible, and nicely priced. And based in Europe!
zoho.com or zoho.eu if you want your data hosted in Europe. it's cheap and has a really big feature set... note taking app, exchange sync, office suite, drive...
I agree. I wouldn’t use them with a purelymail.com email address since I’m not sure they’re gonna be around forever, but for use with a custom domain the service works great for now
I have been a very happy customer for several years. I even really like their web interface.
