Goncharov: Why has the internet invented a fake Martin Scorsese film? (theguardian.com)

There's currently more fanfic on AO3 for Goncharov (539 stories) than the James Cameron Avatar movie (333 stories).

Even the non-existent Goncharov (what a great name!) has better optics in my head than Avatar which I remember being an unspectacular bore fest.

I'm pretty sure that snl papyrus avatar skit is better than the movie Avatar

You know you've hit the cultural zeitgeist as an artist when people create work in your style and pretend to be you!

This reminds me of the search for a supposedly lost anime from '80s titled Saki Sanobashi/Go for a Punch. Even though there's a good chance it never existed, there has been quite a bit of fanfiction and even an attempt make/remake an actual anime OVA/movie/series of their own.

Ironically, Disney would _like_ Scorsese’s beautiful 1997 film “Kundun” to be fake (but it isn’t).
