The other way to see it is that offline is the outmost possible edge computing.

Or that offline is zero network latency for the stuff you have on your computer.

Or that offline is, when functional, like online but without surrendering all control over your computing to someone else.

All these metaphors have their own limited scope where they are true and most appropriate.
