Seeking help: Shopify has banned my partner’s account

I’ve seen people post asking for help before. Hoping someone who works at Shopify can connect me with a human to get this fixed.

It’s not clear why the account was banned. Blake runs an event planning business https://www.instagram.com/gregoryblakesamsevents/ . He is planning on opening a brick and mortar store in Charleston with online retail as well. The store is months away from opening. There is literally nothing on Shopify for the store yet.

From Shopify:

This email is to inform you that after reviewing your information and website we have determined that your business presents a level of risk that we will be unable to support with Shopify. We know this is not ideal, however we won't be able to help with your business.

Please note that for security and privacy reasons we are unable to divulge the results of our reviews and investigations.

Shopify’s response when requesting a review:

Unfortunately, once an account has been declined the decision is final.

As per [*Shopify's Terms Of Service | Section 4*](http://www.shopify.com/legal/terms), it states that: "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time".

Hope someone can help!

Events are considered high risk by payment processors because the nature of events is that you sell the tickets before the event (ie. you accept payment without providing the service).

Shopify focuses more on people selling physical goods (traditional ecommerce), so maybe consider a platform that caters specifically to events/services - maybe something like woocommerce?.

He is not planning on selling tickets to events. The shop is a completely separate business (I just put link in to legitimize us) It will be selling things like plates and candles. I understand your point though and that could be a misunderstanding. I hope that I can speak with a person at Shopify and get this cleared up!

Funny timing, my app for Shopify is for merchants to sell tickets, and it's featured on the App Store home page right now.

To get your domain out, you may need to send a demand letter from a lawyer to their legal department. Your account is probably long gone, but they cannot confiscate your domain.

Hopefully it doesn’t come to this. I will get prepared for the worst though. Thank you!

Unfortunately they sent this today:

Hello,

Due to your account closure we cannot release your domain.

Thank you,

Shopify Trust & Safety Team

I wonder what they'll do with it. Let it expire? keep renewing it?

Well that depends on what their TOS is?

It's final and they wont tell you, move on.

It’s not so simple just to move on. A domain is registered via Shopify. We are unable to access the account to unlock it. The domain is associated with a non trivial amount of design and branding work.

Have you contacted support at all and asked if you can transfer it out?

Yes. It seems like we are in limbo not getting responses. My first solution wasn’t to beg on hn!

[flagged]

Oh the irony…
