I wonder if it's my limited art knowledge, or indeed black and white painting nowadays are not popular. The only modern artist I know who did such paintings was Mark Rothko.

In photography, black and white is still alive well. Everyone from beginners with their cellphones to seasoned pros with big studio cameras do it.

I wonder why.
