Ask HN: Anyone else noticing an uptick in non-compliant CANSPAM mails?
4 points by exabrial on Oct 17, 2023 | hide | past | favorite
Over the last several months, I've seen a surge of emails hit my inbox that don't contain unsubscribe links.

Examples just today:

- Google "You can now move Fitbit to your Google Account"

- Southwest Airlines "Big changes coming to Rapid Rewards!"

Neither of these emails are compliant because they don't contain unsubscribe links. Unfortunately as far as I know, CANSPAM does not allow individuals to sue, only State Attorney Generals.

I've written the Attorney General of Missouri a letter asking for their office to send a warning shot over the bow before this trend takes off, but unfortunately was met with a canned response.

Anyone else notice these? If so, please send a letter to your state Attorney General and see if you can get them to take action.
