Huh? I'm really not the one to pull in the generic argument but - there's a place for both and much more.
It's great not needing write hundreds of lines of boilerplate code to get a 2D physics game prototype running, and conversely, it is nice to get awesome graphical support using directx sdk, much of it handled in there by sane API.
