I went to high school in CA, AZ, and SD (state, not city). The CA public school was by far the best, despite being in a relatively poor town (San Jacinto), and so underfunded that we got random fridays off _to save on teacher salaries_. I don't know what you've heard about CA public schools, but all things considered I think they are quite good.
