I have so many good memories of spending hours upon hours on IRC as a young teen... all via console/tui applications. *itch/X and LiCE, etc... discovered so much music, got into the ASCII art scene, got lots of linux help. This was ~1993 and probably stayed on IRC pretty heavily until around 2004.
