Which is funny, because you'd think it would be demand for good content. I don't like reading LLM writing because it's mostly very bad. If a piece of LLM writing were good enough, I might not care, but I haven't yet seen any LLM content that I actually want to read.
The editor's job was to make writing good so that people would pay for it. In the past, they paid for it wish cash. Today, a lot of us pay with our attention, and apparently we're often not very frugal about that. If people demanded better content, editors would be forced to seek it out.
I am sure LLMs will get better, just as the art-generators stopped routinely mis-counting fingers. So I don't think it's up to the editors to get better at identifying AI, and more about identifying what makes a piece worth reading. If the AIs can produce that... it will be a rather different world.
