I read through the article, hard to believe they will be processing billions of dollars on top of JavaScript. Maybe I've been wrong and now it's time to dump Java and go all script.

I'm guessing this is just the front-end of paypal. The backend is most likely Java-based and is never going to be changed to Node.

I wouldn't do anything reckless until I see the codebase, the system architecture, and pretty much everything.

If it's just a front-end of the actual processing then meh.
