My takeaway: our median income is still higher than pretty much everywhere except Canada, which has caught up with the US.

Hey yeah when you ignore all the results for the 50% of the population below the median, things look pretty rosy! USA USA!

And of course the size of your take home check is all that matters. It doesn't matter that you then have to pay for a number of services that other parts of the world paid for with their pre-tax income.

What about after-tax median income after student loan payments and self-purchased health insurance? What about all the monthly payments the rest of the developed world gets to support their raising of children in the middle class? What about the costs of transportation that are imposed on Americans when their European counterpart takes subsidized rail to work?

As long as you never get sick, lose your job, or go to college.
