Not a bad idea, but i think the direction you are going will be a challenge. Having people select certain artists/tracks, and then trying to match them with other users of the same taste is quite a bit different than saying to a person 'what sort of music are you into?'.

However, check out the last.fm or pandora api's. That might be a better way to go as you can match against an already existing dataset and a wide range of users.
