not all datacenters are created equal. Remember the consequences of the AWS outage caused by problems in just a single region

A single AWS region can be a dozen DCs. An AZ is shared infra (power circuit, fiber ingress) and be over a few buildings.

yandex story is not that different. Strikes targeted power, leaving AZs offline

> There is no reorganisation of the model durring inference.

one could argue that model can reorganize / interact with prior knowledge captured in text form (edit files) hence there can be reorganisation

That would "using reason in chain of thought".

HIV did not exist in human population before XX centiry. Crossings from SIV are extremely rare - vaccinations is about HIV, not SIV

> facts keep aligning with the left more often

What kind of citation would work for you?

any kind, like, literally anything that would explain where did your statement come from :)

maybe the data proving that "more often" with numbers

I wonder how this system can be protected from spam - if anyone can send data there, enemy can, too

I feel like if/once they reach the number of expected participants (10k), it'd be easy to filter out the spam as long as the majority are truthful.

So what prevents enemy from creating 20knparticipants constantly sending fake data?

Nothing, but what's the value when it's trivial to filter it away based on known good actors? There will be a frontline somewhere, if suddenly it's reporting drones on the other end of the country, and you know there is no good nodes there, you ignore it.

"Unwanted traffic", is what I go by typically. What is your understanding (if you have one) of that term?

Spam specifically means (at least originally) so much unwanted traffic that it overwhelms legitimate traffic. So can I see why that commenter might have considered it a contradiction to say "the majority being truthful" as a strategy to deal with spam.

The name comes from a Monty Python sketch where "SPAM!" is being sung so loudly that it drowned out any other conservation.

> Spam specifically means (at least originally) so much unwanted traffic that it overwhelms legitimate traffic.

I guess what today is more commonly known as DOS (or even DDOS sometimes, even if it isn't actually "distributed" per se, for some reason).

I did know about the name since before, but not the original meaning, so cheers for the explanation :)

I'd still say DOS is a little different because it's the server that can't tell what's valid; to the human, in that situation, if their request eventually completes then it's definitely their data coming back, it just completes slowly or not at all. With spam, it's a human wading through junk to find valid data.

“We just launch it and we know everything will be dead – everything that will be found there in this particular area will be dead,” says Kokhanovskyy.

Everything! Everything! Like all the deer, all the rabbits, all the decoys! Obviously we trust Kokhanovskyy

if there is no video with jamming artifacts and banging music, it doesn't count

Come on, Russian "страна наиболее вероятного противника" (the country of the most likely enemy) was always the military name of the US since the Cold War. Now used in military texts and also as a sarcastic cliché

Moreover, it's adversary, not enemy.

The Russians seem to refer to most people not helping them as enemies. Often as nazis too.

Stupid generalization, just like propagandist stereotypes about obese redneck Americans and perverted Europeans.

Only propagandists and their victims can throw rocks like this without any discernment.

Any nation is a collection of vastly different personalities, out of whom one could of course pick a group with sought after characteristics, but taking one such group and extending its characteristics to the whole nation is beyond stupid.

It's OK if you implied "Russian government", but that better be explicit.

I was thinking Russian government and propagandists, especially Putin. BBC going on about it https://youtu.be/2gNp0PfK0CI

Exactly. Russians seem to understand the word "Nazis" is a less-literate way than the rest of the world.

"Nazi" -- in Russia -- means anybody that Russia hates, resents, is jealous of, or otherwise dislikes. Anybody not explicitly in Russia's thrall is "anti-Russian", considered an enemy, and is hence labelled a "Nazi".

Coincidentally, this "Whoever isn't with us, is against us" thinking is a hallmark of fascist regimes like the actual Nazi Germany, where it was an article of faith.

This post was made by NAFO gang

Ad-hominem attack.

Can you do better?

No ad hominem, just meme post because ironically post about nazis operates with made up national stereotypes.

You're saying that calling people you disagree with "Nazis" was invented by Russia? Well, in that case, a lot of people better start paying royalties.

If the survelliance tech is so great, why post amber alert messages with the license plate numbers all over all highways to help find the car?

The more eyes the better the chances. Obviously it’s not total information awareness the likes one of the previous DNIs dreampt about. We see its imperfection if the fact that a very public case in an Arizona abduction case is basically cold. They basically have zero leads -which is pretty incredible in this day and age.

The Amber Alert system is much older than promiscuous cameras.

99% of the time it’s a custodial dispute, but that’s orthogonal.

> The US just cannot build cheap energy

Nuclear power anyone?

Cheap.

What is expensive in nuclear energy? Reason there is not more of nuclear reactors is not the cost, it is regulation. Regulation can be changed (it also seem to already have, recently, IIRC - starting 2024 NRC law changes by Biden admin and later by Trump admin)

Reason there is not more of nuclear reactors is not the cost, it is regulation.

The reason for regulation is that failure is not an option --- unless you're willing to accept the cost of making a big chunk of a state uninhabitable for a very long time.

How much would failure cost? The Chernobyl exclusion zone is over 1000 square miles --- about half the size of Delaware. And it is expected to remain uninhabitable for the next 20,000 years.

Also, the Russian Academy of Sciences estimates that up to 1 million people may suffer premature death as a result of radiation exposure and contamination from the event.

In the long run, renewable energy is a lot cheaper.
